About Kāko`o `Ōiwi

Kāko`o `Ōiwi is a non-profit Native Hawaiian Organization founded in 2006 by Mehana Hind, Kahi Brooks and Kehau Watson after we saw a need in our community to have better networking and administrative support available to Native Hawaiian people and organizations.

Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors currently consists of the following individuals:

What We Do

We don't believe in telling organizations how to function. Organizations and groups who work with us tell us what their needs are and we do our best to fulfill them. From press releases and networking to administrative and financial help, we use our knowledge and training to support Native Hawaiian groups. We believe that community groups and cultural practitioners should focus on their work at the community level (i.e., doing community work and being cultural practitioners) and not excessive administrative duties; we see our roles as helping these entities deal with the extensive work associated the fundraising, administration and compliance requirements of being community organizations.

To date we have helped various groups from throughout the state with incorporation, creation of organizational documents, technological assistance, networking, grant writing, fundraising, human resources issues, liability and compliance problems, event registration and many other tasks.

Our Mission

"Kāko`o `Ōiwi is a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation of the cultural and spiritual practices of the Native Hawaiian people, and was created to provide a venue for the dissemination of Native Hawaiian educational materials and community networking."

The purposes for which the Organization is organized are as follows:

We emphasize our mission and our purposes because we do not work with just any organization. While we certainly encourage all organizations to approach us, we limit the organizations we work with to those who support the mission of our organization and help us fulfill the purposes for which we were organized.
